Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

* This position will be used for staffing agency employees only.

Performs electrocardiography procedures, exercise stress testing, nuclear stress testing, ambulatory monitoring and cardiac or vascular ultrasound for diagnostic purposes at Bryan Medical Center.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Competently performs diagnostic electrocardiograms, holter monitor applications, and adult cardiac ultrasounds (M-mode, 2D, Doppler, and Color flow, stress Echo and Transesophageal) or vascular ultrasound (Carotid, Venous, Arterial) imaging in accordance with established departmental policies.

3. *Performs quantitative calculations from data obtained and records preliminary impression where applicable.

4. *Provides the reading physician with adequate diagnostic information necessary to generate final report; notifies physician if results require immediate attention.

5. *Performs routine equipment maintenance and departmental maintenance including cleaning, disinfection and use of appropriate solutions.

6. *Transports patient and/or equipment, alone or with assistance, in bed, wheeled cart or wheel chair to designated area.

7. *Assists with holding venous and arterial pressure to achieve hemostasis.

8. *Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.

9. Informs supervisor of any institution or equipment concerns; communicates/interfaces with Medical Center personnel, medical staff, patients, families and outside agencies to ensure quality patient care.

10. Cross-trains to other areas of noninvasive technology such as signal-averaged electrocardiograms, flight physical electrocardiograms, exercise stress testing, and nuclear stress testing; cross-trains into other ultrasound modalities.

11. Prepares unconfirmed ECG's for Cardiologist overread.

12. Maintains a safe working environment.

13. Maintains confidentiality of hospital, patient and family information.

14. Participates in quality initiatives and lab accreditation (with ICAEL/ICAVL) activities; participates in quality assurance data collection.

15. Attends monthly staff meetings.

16. Participates in training and educational experiences for all sonography interns and other allied health interns; completes required documentation as indicated.

17. May deliver medications received on unit to the appropriate patient, RN, physician, medication drawer or medication storage place.

18. Operates mobile ultrasound equipment in all areas of the hospital.

19. Provides education to the patient and family by providing an explanation of the procedure.

20. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

21. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

22. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from a diagnostic medical sonography program or equivalency required.

CARDIAC SONOGRAPHERS: Must obtain Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RCDS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) within two (2) years of hire through the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or provide demonstrated progress toward achieving registry.

VASCULAR SONOGRAPHERS: Must obtain Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS) within (2) years of hire through the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or provide demonstrated progress toward achieving registry.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)

(DOT) - Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Possible exposure to body fluids and communicable disease; may be required to lift and transport patients.
